APD | Chinese President Xi arrives in Manila

MANILA, Nov.20 (APD) – Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport shortly before midday today for his two-day state visit.

He was welcomed by Finance Secretary Carlos G. Dominguez III, Armed Forces Chief of Staff General Carlito Galvez, Philippine Ambassador to China Jose Santiago “Chito” Sta. Romana and Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Zhao Jianhua.

President Xi is scheduled to meet with President Rodrigo Roa Duterte later today and witness the signing of still undisclosed number of agreements between the two countries.

He is scheduled to lay a wreath at the monument of the Philippines’ national hearo, Dr. Jose Rizal whose roots have come from Fujian province where President Xi once served as provincial government.

He will meet with President Duterte and other cabinet officials in Malacanang shortly before 5:00 P.M.

This is the first time a Chinese leader would visit the Philippines in 13 years. Both Presidents Xi and Duterte are of the opinion Chinese-Philippine relations have reached its apex since the latter took over in June 30,2016.
