APD | India: Thousands of weddings takes place in Delhi on Monday

By APD writer Rishika Chauhan

NEW DELHI, Nov. 20 (APD) -- On Monday, an estimated 18,000-20,000 weddings took place in Delhi, as astrologers considered the day auspicious.

The auspicious day came after four months of unfavourable days as Hindu astrologers considered the period unsuitable for weddings. According to them, the next four days are also suitable for weddings.

As the weddings progressed, traffic jams in Delhi and the surrounding national capital region followed as wedding processions made way to the venues.

Traffic was particularly slow in Chhattarpur, Mehrauli, GT Karnal Road, Kapashera, Alipur road, Punjabi Bagh, Raja Garden Lakshmi Nagar in Delhi.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Traffic Police asked the residents to cooperate, stressing that they had positioned more officials at the wedding venues to ensure that traffic could be controlled.

Alok Kumar, joint commissioner of police (traffic), asked the residents to only park at allotted spots, warning that wrongly parked vehicles will be towed.

As the stars have again aligned, according to astrologers many more weddings are expected till the first week of December.
