ROK FM and Pompeo hold phone talks over 2nd Kim-Trump summit

Republic of Korea (ROK) Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha and U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo held phone talks Monday morning regarding the second summit between the leaders of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the United States, according to the ROK foreign ministry.

Kang and Pompeo talked for half an hour from 9:30 a.m. local time (0030 GMT), the ministry said.

They exchanged opinions about the visit to Washington by Kim Yong Chol, vice chairman of the DPRK's ruling Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) Central Committee, and the second summit between Kim Jong Un, the DPRK's top leader, and U.S. President Donald Trump.

Kim and Trump had the first-ever DPRK-U.S. summit meeting in Singapore in June last year. The White House said Friday that the second summit will take place near the end of February.
