A shooting in the U.S. state of Georgia has killed four and left at least one wounded, local police said Thursday evening.

Polk County Sheriff's Office confirmed the shooting took place at two separate scenes in Rockmart, a town about 70 km northwest of Atlanta.

One man and one woman were found dead at each of the locations.

The identity of the suspect and motives are under investigation.

They were targeted, but I don't know why. Rockmart police Chief Keith Sorrells said, adding there were no signs of a home invasion or forced entry at either location.

Other reports suggested the crime may have been drug-related.

Initial reports indicated that two were wounded, but the police later revised the number to one.
