China condemns presumptuous comments on HK affairs: official

An official in charge of the Office of the Commissioner of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) on Sunday condemned and lodged solemn representations to some foreign media which, in total disregard of facts, made presumptuous and irresponsible comments on Hong Kong's suspension of fugitive bill amendments.

The government of Hong Kong SAR on Saturday said it would temporarily halt the introduction of a fugitive bill in the wake of public views after riots on Wednesday.

The Chinese central government has reiterated it supports, respects and understands the decision to suspend action on the bill, the official said.

The central government will continue to firmly support the chief executive and the SAR government in their administration of the law and to safeguard its national sovereignty, security and development interests and maintain Hong Kong's prosperity and stability, the official added.
