Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Thursday that cooperation between Tehran and Ankara would guarantee regional peace and security, Tasnim news agency reported.

Rouhani made the remarks in a congratulatory message to his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the 96th anniversary of Turkey's Republic Day which was celebrated in Turkey on Oct. 29.

Rouhani said that significant steps over the past years have led to the strengthening of historic, friendly and brotherly ties between Iran and Turkey.

The two neighbors have enhanced relations by setting up the Supreme Council of Cooperation and holding regular expert meetings at Joint Economic Commission, Joint Transportation Commission and Strategic Agricultural Committee, he said.

The regional developments over the past decade and the prominent role that Iran and Turkey have played in helping address the issues also reveal that the two great neighboring states' companionship could guarantee peace, security, and stability in regional countries, Rouhani said in his message.
