Chinese writer faces decades of prison time for selling pornography

Selling thousands of copies in just a few months, a writer in China faces more than a decade in prison for writing and selling pornography novels. The book, which is proofread, printed and sold online, was identified by the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television as an obscene and illegal publication.

Surnamed Liu and known as “Tianyi,” the woman was caught in Jiangsu province, East China. One of her novels published last year and focused on the relationship between a male teacher and a male student got her under scrutiny.

According to Liu, to make profits, she wrote obscene books at home, first promoting them through Weibo and attracting fans, and then selling them through Taobao stores.

Among Liu and the other three accomplices, Liu is responsible for writing the book and making copies.

He and Yang printed them in Chengdu, Sichuan province, and Lin is responsible for typesetting and proofreading. Until they were caught by the police, the suspects sold more than 7,000 obscene books on the Internet and made an illegal profit of 150,000 yuan (about 22,000 US dollars).

After the verdict, Liu appealed to the intermediate people's court of Wuhu city.
